What if Im diognosed with diabetes?

Diabetes runs in my dad's side of the family. If I am diagnosed with type 1 or 2, will I need to go to the hospital? Will anything hurt that they do to me there? Will I be hooked up to a bunch of tubes? And what kinds of clothes do kids/teens were at the AI dupont children's' hospital in delaware?

There are several ways to test:

1) A simple urine test will give an indication for howhigh your blood sugar is.

2) They can do a resting blood sugar test to see how high your sugar is.

3) They can do a Hemoglobin A1C to see on average, how high your sugar has been.

Symptoms of diabetes include: Weight loss, irritability, sudden poor eyesight, insatiable thirst, leg cramps when you lay down, horrid pain in your kidneys, increased urination

It all depends on what type you get and your blood glucose levels. If your levels are very high or very low then it might be necessary to put you on an Intravenous Infusion (drip/iv) which can be slightly uncomfortable when they put the needle in. The only other thing that will be done 3/4 times a day is to test your blood glucose levels and this is a small prick normally on the finger which can sting sometimes but you do get used to it. There may be a genetic link in both types of diabetes but type 1 is less prevalent than type 2 and there is nothing at the moment to prevent type 1. In the uk anyone in hospital wears their own clothes but I do not know about Delaware sorry.
Remember by eating a healthy diet, taking plenty of exercise and keeping your weight under control you will lessen your chances of getting type 2. The best thing for you to do would be to learn what you can about diabetes and be aware of the symptoms and then try not to let worrying about it affect your life to much, you may never develop it at all and why let it ruin your life. If your are diagnosed you do learn to live with it quite quickly.

Seriously you need to relax. You don't even have any symptoms and now you're asking what kind of clothes you may wear if you were to be hospitalized? You probably don't have diabetes! Even if you were diagnosed, that doesn't mean you'll end up in the ICU connected to tubes or catheters. You may not even be hospitalized, and that's IF you even have diabetes, which you probably DON'T.

Well for one, I sure wouldn't be stressing about the clothes you have to wear in a hospital sweetie. XD If you're diagnosed with diabetes I'm sure you'll BE in a hospital. (While they're diagnosing you.) And maybe after for monitoring. I don't remember though, I was 2 when I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. And nothing hurt. They pricked my big toe when I was in the hospital at 2 years old and it didn't hurt a bit. (: Don't worry, it's a manageable disease and it doesn't hurt.

I just spent some time reading the A.I. Duponte Childrens hospital website. Here is a bit about what clothes to bring:
"sleepwear; robe; slippers; washable, casual clothing; underwear; and socks for your child."
From that statement it sounds like you can wear normal clothes for the day. If you go to the website you can go on a virtual tour, maybe that will help. I can't find anything about diabetes on it, sorry.

Slow down and take a deep breath. You may or may not be diabetic. The tests are simple and are not painful. Most of the time it can be done by one or two blood tests. They check your sugar level for the back 3 months with one test. Most people don't even go into the hospital. I didn't. Type 1 usually needs insulin and type 2 can at times just use a new diet plan. Go to diabetes.com or WebMD.com and all your questions may be answered.

They may or may not. Totally depends on what your levels are and if they need to stabilize you.
