How does actos help in controlling my diabetes? |
I just need some info on the tablet that was added to my other meds that i was already taking. Pioglitazone is an anti-diabetic drug (thiazolidinedione-type, also called "glitazones") used along with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes). It works by helping to restore your body's proper response to insulin, thereby lowering your blood sugar. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Actos has a very complex mechanism of action and will only work in the presence of insulin. To put it too simply, it helps sensitize your body to the insulin that your pancreas secretes. When the tissues in your body have been exposed to high glucose levels, they are also exposed to abnormal amounts of insulin (body's response to decrease glucose levels). After some time, the tissues become less sensitive to the the glucose-lowering effects of insulin. This medication will help control your blood glucose by sensitizing those tissues to insulin. Actos will lower your hemoglobin A1c, but not by much. Hi Rosie Actos helps your pancreas control your sugar. It worked for me wonderfully, but it causes me to retain fluid, so I can't take it. If you begin to retain water, your feet or legs start swelling - talk to your doctor. This is one of the best diabetic controller, but the side effects keep some of us from using it. all anti diabetes medicines either stimulate the insulin secreting cells or the use age of sugar in the periphery is made available or also the digestion of sugar is prevented ---you have given only the commercial name --- pharmacological name to disclosed |
