Confused with my diabetes!!?

i was diagnosed about 4 months ago and one of my main symptoms was extreme thirst. for the past few days ive been getting really thirsty again. my sugar levels arent high, and i have no ketones. Is it just a phase or is there a reason for it?

Is it hot where you are? I know it seems dammed stupidly obvious, but the minute it gets slightly hotter than normal i notice i drink a lot more to keep me hydrated.

It could just be that you're drinking a little more, you might be hot.

It's worth mentioning to your doc anyway, it might be a side effect of your medication, or it could be something else.

I wouldn't worry about it too much though if your sugars are ok.

I am going to say things you probably already know so bear with me.

Mostly the extreme thirst that diabetics get is due to the amount of water we lose in our urine. The more you lose the more you need to drink. (I know that is a DUH) Anyway, If it were me I would check my sugar on another meter to make sure that the meter is OK even if the controls ar good. If you do not have another meter get you one of the less expensive ones (Make sure you price the strips) there is a generic meter that has generic strips that is actually pretty good from walmart and it will only be a backup. I am very happy with the one touch products because several of the meters use the same strips. I have recieved several meters for free and if I am not feeling the way my sugar reads I always check it on another meter.
Other than that you could be having a problem not related to diabetes. I have never gotten over the extreme thirst. My glucose averages around 100 since I started medication and I have to drink all the time.

as a diabetic there is nothing wrong with drinking. i find that i do drink heaps normally (yes i'm type 1 diabetic) and even more if my BSL is high. drink away. keep to the water more than soft drink. maybe a squeeze of lemon in it if u dont like the taste of pure water

If you haven't worked with your doctor for the last 4 months to find your
problems. How are we supposed to find out in one question.Ask your doctor about any doubts you may have or the the doubts you may have.May be the
end of you doubts.Amen.
