Do you think there will be a cure for Diabetes any time soon? |
My daughter has had Diabetes since whe was 11 yrs. old, she is not 43. Thirty years of insulin injections, testing her blood, worrying over high sugar readings, kidneys, amputations, etc. It just goes on and on. I pray that stem cell research will help, but Bush keeps rejecting it. Do you know of any other countries that are working on some kind of cure or help for these poor people who have to tend to this disease every day of their life. She can barely afford the supplies, but works all the time. She has no health insurance, cannot afford it. She is without a family nor husband to over look her care. So many are like this, even my grandson came down with it. It is not hereditary they say, but they just eventually give up, and tired of fooling with it. What do you now about any research, or even any thoughts about advances in this disease? Here's a small sampling of what I've learned. Don't go to the links under type 1 unless you don't mind getting a little upset. For type I and type II diabetics (and those who are overweight and could potentially become diabetic). Copy and bookmark the webpages I鈥榲e listed below鈥?they are invaluable for those with diabetes and/or weight problems... I've found a wonderful book that will help you control your diabetes and minimize or even eliminate the complications. Some folks who became diabetic due to poor diet and obesity are effectively cured by following the advice in this book. I'm a type II (inherited), but it helps all types, especially those who became diabetic due to poor eating habits. It's by an author who has really done his homework, Patrick Quillin, Phd. It's called, "The Diabetes Improvement Program". I have tried his suggestions and found them to be very helpful. I have no complications whatsoever and my blood sugar levels are quite stable. Yes, I still have to take Metformin (Glucophage) daily, but it's the minimum dosage (500mg) and I only have to take it twice a day. I have been off Metformin for as much as a week, but this was with vigorous exercise. Many, what I call, non-hereditary type IIs (those that don't have a close relative who had it) have gotten off medication completely, just with diet, exercise, and supplements. The book explains what's going on in our system and what to do about it. It's really easy and inexpensive. It's basically diet, supplements, and exercise. The only, pretty sure thing that I know of is a pancreas transplant. Merck has a new medication coming out called Januva, which is taken once per day, much less likely to cause low blood sugar. I assume that because she was 11 when she got and her child got, that it is Type 1. Thats difficult, as only 4-5% of all diabetes patients are Type 1, there fore there isn't a lot of development in this area. Pharma companies have tried to make more convenient forms of insulins, but thats all going to be expensive. Perhaps she can ask her doctor about the new GLP-1 analogs (Byetta) I am not sure, however how they work with Type 1 patients. Good luck to be honest short of transplanting pancreas's its unlikely a cure will be found in the next ten years but there have been great advances in insulin treatment itself and the types of insulin available on the market- before long insulin implants will be introduced meaning only a visit to your dr every six months to replenish the supply, also with these advances it will virtually eradicate the classic problems associated with diabetes such as circulatory disorders, premature blindness and the risk of hypoglaecaemic episodes. i wish your daughter the best of luck and believe me the future is looking brighter for sufferers of diabetes- KEEP SMILING I`m not discouraging. But a cure for diabetes is not possible within the forseeable future. nope it will not go away it will say there forever i have dibets since i was 13 |
