Why instead of waiting to see if we have diabetes are we not screened for it?

before it's too late. I don't have it but friends of mine do and thery were so shocked to find out that they had it when they went for a medical check up. Surely there is cheap product on the market so that we can all check our own blood sugar levels.

In my case, it came on so gradually, that the doctor was able to pick it up during routine physicals/bloodwork. In fact, he warned me that if I didn't get on a healthy diet, I would become diabetic. He was right. Now that I'm on a healthy diet and exercise routine, all is well. So becoming diabetic was probably a good thing for me. Taught me how to take care of myself.... the hard way. That'll be the cost implication then.
....dont know, but if your interested, doctors used to check (before the time of medical tests) for diabetes by tasting the persons wee, cos it should be sweeter than a non-diabetes-suffers wee..........yukky but true.....!!
economics.

the same could be said of many illnesses and diseases.
I believe you can get a test in Boots
The most secure way to screen for diabetes, have your dr run a blood scan on your next visit. Most insurance plans cover this. Or have one of your friends check your blood sugar.
