I just found out that i have type 1 diabetes I am on the cozmo insulin pump.? |
I also just found out that i am pregnant so my question doesn't really pertain to me right now, but just out of curosity, or for future advise can you drink alcohol on a inslin pump? or even with diabetes period? I'm not really a big drinker anyway but there are certain occasions. People seemed to mistake what you said. OBVIOUSLY you aren't going to drink while you are pregnant so don't mind them... You can drink when you have diabetes you just need to self monitor a little better. Unfortunately when you have been drinking you monitor yourself less and less. Yes you can also drink while you are on the pump. I guess I would talk to you doctor to get the real facts on it. You can try to live as normal of a life as you did before you were diagnosed....now having a child is a different story! Good luck and Congrats on the new baby! Source(s): Diabetes in the family... :( Alcohol converts to sugar. Don't try to drink then make up for all the sugar by giving yourself more insulin. That can kill you. My niece did this several times eating things that contained too much sugar and she went into a diabetic coma. Now, you are PREGNANT and you shouldn't be drinking anyway. So lay off the booze. FDA researcher Yes, you can drink alcohol if you're so inclined. The thing is though that it initially drops your blood sugar which is why you're suppsed to eat a meal when you drink. Then you bolus for everything. A nutritionist would be able to explain it better to you. My boyfriend's a diabetic, he doesnt have the insulin pump yet, for another few months, but he does drink, in moderation, and he just figures out the carbs in the beer and estimates how much more insulin to take to covor the alcohol. I found him this really helpful website that tells you what brands of beer have how many carbs. And to add to my answer, him and I were out at a bar one night and I did see a girl who wore an insulin pump, and she was drinking, so I dont think it would hurt you. Here's the websites I found: http://www.realbeer.com/edu/health/calor... (shows the carbs on the right) http://www.iloveindia.com/nutrition/carb... |
