Where can I find out about the prognosis of diabetes? |
Where can I find out about the prognosis of diabetes? The prognosis depends upon the type of diabetes (1 2A 2B) the duration of the diabetes and how well controlled it is. Changes in physiology are present for about a decade before the gluocse elevates and the diagnosis is made so valuable time for intervention is lost. Type 1 has the 'worst' prognosis followed by 2A and 2B. A 2B diabetic with no history of heart disease has the same mortality rate as a non diabetic who has suffered a heart attack thus the mortality associated with diabetes is quite high but fortunately treatment options have never been better. There are a few ways... Your Doctor first... I also go online to the american Diabetes site... Some websites you can log in your numbers and print it out later to take to our doctor..... The prognosis of diabetes all depends on the care and how well it is controlled as well as other health problems a person has. Whether it's type 1 or type 2 makes a difference also. Go to the American Diabetes Association web site and get info. My sisier-in- law had it from 16 and lived to be 65. She was pretty well managed, diet wise and took very good care of herself. Good luck. https://www.diabetes.org/ I am a diabetic, it is all how you take care of yourself and your disease. I have also know lots of people who have this, but they lead a normal life. With so many advances, exercise, proper diet, you can live a long and prosperous life. I was affraid at the beginning, but you get used to it and as long as you monitor it, nothing out of the ordinary will happen. Good luck! Go to see the doctor and he will order a blood test. He may also do a urine test in his office. If you have glucose (sugar) spilling into the urine then that is a good indication you have diabetes. i recall a cartoon that ran in the new yorker years ago of this little king in this throne room with the caption: i know i am paranoid but am i paranoid enough? that is how i feel about 99% of doctors these days. they are motivated by fear of being sued or just plain plain greedy. or both. so to answer you question do your own secondary research and read and think for you self. i hate it when i hear the cop-out "warning" phrase: consult your physician before blah blah blah. the web is probably the best source. a university library. if you are smart enough, find out from anybody but your physician. oh, i didn't go to medical school etc. as the doctors are apt to tell me from time. it's a just "trust me" thing. they all disagree with each other. who the hell knows? |
