Do you best to maintain a good diet and a normal body weight. Limit your sugar and carb intake, and get plenty of exercise. Be sure to have regular check ups with your doctor and have any routine bloodwork he/she orders.

I have known about my diabetes for 8 months and I struggle with food too. As far as I have learned you have to eat like you are on one of those superstar diets.
I have read some books related to controlling blood sugar with diet and some raw food diet experts claim to prevent and cure diabetes. Books by Dr. Diana Schwarzbein MD, an endocrinologist, refer to the glycemic index of food and proper combining of protein, fats, and carbs as a way of controlling blood sugar. A retreat called the Tree of Life Rejuvenation centre in Patagonia, AZ was involved in a documentary about curing diabetes when people eat raw natural food.
Gabriel Cousens-Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center, he has books and a website with forum. Dr. Diana Schwarzbein MD, "The Schwarzbein Principle 1,2, and Recipes"
You can't get Type 1 (Juvinille) diabetes by having a bad diet, but you might get Type 2. Watch your carbs!
