Anyone had any sucess taking Chromium picolinate to help with diabetes ?

I've read that Chromium picolinate can help with type 2 diabetes, helping th body with it's insulin / sugar? If you have any stories, good or otherwise, I'd like to hear them

My sister is a PHD medical research scientist (really! I'm so proud of her!) She's also diabetic, and I myself am working to prevent diabetes onset. I don't think I can precisely repeat in all the scientific terms exactly what she told me, but she says that Chromium Picolinate is more difficult for the body to utilize -- in fact, almost useless. Buy GTF Chromium (glucose tolerance factor) It's actually made naturally by yeast cells and somehow completes the insulin molecule so your body can utilize it. Many companies produce it... I've used a few different brands and currently have Solaray. Also, DO NOT FORGET MAGNESIUM -- very important. Look for blood sugar supplements containing Gymnemia Sylvestre, cinnamon, bilberry, and numerous others. I have one that was recommended called BLOOD SUGAR by Nature's way, but haven't necessarily noticed any huge improvement over just the GTF Chromium. I'll be looking for other maybe more potent formulas -- mostly because I know they'll be of SOME benefit, and they're generally good for me. For myself, contrary to popular belief, I don't believe any of us NEED bread, potatoes and pasta. Good vegies, meats, cheeses, milk, essential oils, and definately sugar free Metamucil to keep your fiber intake up have kept me on track and my blood sugar low. Good Luck!
Actually, I take a product that uses chromium polynicotinate. I've listed it on my webpage item # 9 in a list of things that have helped. I've also included proof in the form of December's blood test where I managed a 5.8 on my HbA1C. My doc is still not happy... she wants it down to 5.2. Oh well, guess I'll have to cut back on the carbs and sweets:

Don't know about using it for Diabetes but have used it for dieting with. Cuts fat apparently and i loved using it.
I've herd that before too but don't think it's true - chromium is a mineral that you only need in tiny amounts - worth a try if it's not too expensive, remember that if you take insulin or certian tablets check with a dr first or at least keep an extra close eye on your blood sugars incase of a hypo (your dr will have told you if you are at risk of hypos (low blood sugar) and will have given you a blood meter and instructions of how to treat one - if you haven't been told this then you shouldn't be at risk!). Good luck with it xx
