I would definetly go to the American Diabetes Association website. They have all sorts of valueable information for type one and type two diabetics. They also have a virtual grocery store which is great for checking out carbohydrates and sugars in items. In fact, they can answer any question you have
the normal ranges for blood glucose are 4.0-7.0mmol/l. However if you are diabetic you will have been given a set of ranges that will be normal for you that could be significantly higher than these ranges.

high ranges need to be treated medically, again what classes as high will depend on your own normals. medical treatment normally interveines at levels above 18mmol/l.

treatment is via an injection of insulin.

If your levels are high seek medical advice it could be potentially life threatening if left untreated.

Your Hemoglobin A1C needs to be between 4.0-7.0 even if you are diabetic. If you are over 7.0 then you are too high and are not keeping good control (most endocrinologist will come down hard on your if over 7.0 because you are hurting your body). But the Hem. A1C is a cumulative test. As for day to day levels you would need to stay between 80-120. If you are above that number then you would as a Type I (insulin dependent) take a shot of insulin to bring your glucose (sugar) back down. If you are a Type II (diet, exercise, oral medications) you would have to not eat and do some sort of aerobic activity to bring your glucose down.

If you are diabetic you really should see and Endocrinologist so that you can be referred to a dietitian, they are your best resource. Good on-line resource would be as others have said the American Diabetes Association.

Hope this helped!
