What is the best way to take care of someone with type 2 diabetes? This person also has an ulcer in her stomac

h and arthritus.

If you are a care giver to someone you describe, you no doubt
know the doctor who this person is under the care of. You
need to know what diet they have to follow. What their limitations are, how much exercise they should have, etc,
You may also have to take the persons' blood pressure during
the day, monitor their blood sugar levels with the injection
tools, monitor and other supplies. All this information you'll
have to make sure you have on hand, if you are the sole
provider of her in home health care. If she can take care of
those testing things herself, that is good. She may have to
keep a ledger of her sugar levels that she records each day.
Along with what she's eaten at her meals. Sometimes if a
Diabetic is sick, their sugar levels fluctuate and this needs to
be recorded for the doctors info. As if the Diabetic is insulin
dependant, those injections may need to be altered from
time to time.
As for the ulcer, you'll need to know if she is on meds to
alieviate discomfort before she eats or after. And you'll need
to know what foods to avoid. Usually anything acidy, or hard
to digest, in roughage. Also greasy foods are a no no as well.
So fried foods are eliminated while the ulcer is present.
Usually creamed foods, and soups are a good source. Also
yogurts, non acidy fruits and non restrictive vegitables (green
or yellow ones) can be the best choices. Cottage cheese
is a soothing source of protein, but it has fats to minimize.
Since there is alot of info you will need to know and learn,
you are better left to a professional who can put you in touch
with the staff you need to educate you on the care for this
persons' needs. Sensible eating is the key to both the Diabetes and the ulcer. Knowing which foods to avoid and
how to prepare the good ones allowed more of, is necessary.
Try googling on specific questions and learn some of the
basics diets of both health situations. Don't panic, but try to
learn and absorb all you need to know if it's you who all the
responsibilities fall upon.
Good luck! Source(s): Being a Type 2 Diabetic for 13 years, and reading and
educating myself on the subject. Reading up on stomach
disorders when I myself had one. So it was important to
know which foods to ignore.
