What causes pink eye and can it affect you differently if you have diabetes? Conjunctivitis (pink eye) may be triggered by a virus, bacteria, an allergic reaction (to dust, pollen, smoke, fumes or chemicals) or, in the case of giant papillary conjunctivitis, a foreign body on the eye, typically a contact lens. Bacterial and viral systemic infections also may induce conjunctivitis. As long as you are taking care of your blood sugar (making sure it doesn't get too high or too low) then you should be fine provided you see a doctor if it doesn't clear up on its own in a few days. Source(s): http://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions... Pink eye is a bacterial infection. It could cause your diabetes harder to control. Any type of infection I get, I have a hard time keeping my blood sugars as low as I usually do. |
