How much are the chances of a jaundice (Hepatitis A) patient being affected with Diabetes as an after effect? |
When a patient is having severe hepatitis A, then what are the chances of getting Diabetic after curing the Hepatitis All I've known is that jaundice is due to increased concentration of bilirubin in the blood caused by hemolytic or liver disorders, or medications. Hepatitis A virus is transmitted by poor sanitation, contaminated water, mainly fecal/ and oral routes. Whereas the etiology of diabetes is in the pancreas --it's beta cells could not secrete sufficient insulin -- which is genetic or associated with pregnancy or may be diet, I don't think jaundice would lead to diabetes. The two illnesses are not related. there is no assocation between the two conditions Hepatitis A is a Liver infection from which a person recover after some time, usually without any long term problems, and definitely not Diabetes. It has been correctly told in an answer above, that diabetes is due to dysfunction of Pancreas but Liver also plays an important role in normal control of blood sugar. So in some serious Liver diseases (Hepatitis A is rarely a serious disease),there may be derangement of glucose metabolism. This may be responsible for the increased blood sugars in these very sick patients which u can call diabetes. |
