I'm trying to gain weight but I'm worried that I might develop diabetes, am i taking in too much sugar? |
I lost a dangerous amount of weight recently due to illness and it left me with a lot of stomach problems...such as I can't digest any fats, oils or dairy. I'm trying to gain the weight back with protein, carbs and sugar the healthiest possible way I can. I also have a trainer that i see 3 times a week. But I'm worried that I'm taking in too much sugar and bread. Could I develop diabetes? It's ALL natural sugar...mostly from fruit and jam. I eat about 8 or 9 servings of fruit a day and 7 or 8 servings of bread. Is this bad? I'm not sure how else I can gain weight without fats. ANY advice and ideas would help. Thank you. I'm more concerned about your remaining difficulty in digesting fats, oils and dairy. Are you getting any help with that? it sounds like your gallbladder is in trouble. The other possibility is celiac /coeliac where your small intestine can't cope with wheat, this can lead to problems digesting fats, dairy and vitamins/minerals. Have you seen a GI specialist who can help with tests for either gallbladder or celiac I was very ill when I was 17, it took 5 years to get back to a normal weight even though I ate liberally and still lived a normal life. Don't try to hurry your weight gain, as long as you have enough energy to love life it will get back there sooner or later It's ok. If you get diabetes, just buy a Breeze or Contour blood glucose testing meter from Bayer. Eating too much sugar does not cause diabetes. If you're trying to gain weight then just eat right. Vegetables, fruits, dairy products, grain, proteins, and sometimes sugar. To gain weight don't just eat candies and stuff eat. And it is ok to eat 7 to 8 servings of bread because you're supposed to but make sure you eat everything else; vegetables, fruits..... I would make sure to get lots of protein- that breaks down to sugar the slowest. I doubt it's simply your weight that's causing those problems. If you want tips on healthy protein, try incorporating a vegetarian diet. I am not a vegetarian, but I do think that's the healthiest way to eat. You would eat more beans, for instance. There is a lot of protein without the saturated fat. Hi, I think 7 to 8 servings of bread is too many because bread contains unbalanced protiens and you could develop allergies. It would be better if you mixed up the source of carbs to include rice and potatoes as well as bread and pasta. Also, high grain diets often lead to joint problems not to mention all the yeast in bread. If you eat fruit with protien and fibre, the protien and fibre will slow the absorbtion of the sugar, making it less of a burden on your body. But I think 8 to 9 servings of fruit is excessive, and you should aim for switching some of that for vegetables. You might want to ask professional healthcare people on this one; what do WE know? We'll just tell you to eat any damn thing, but an RN or a PA will know JUST what to do! Congratulations on your ongoing recovery! |
