This drug is widely used in the allopathic treatment of PCOS. In my experience, I have observed over the last 10 years a large number of women who have taken it for over a year, & become diabetic!! It was a drug that was first licenced for the frontline treatment of type 2 diabetes so I am concerned at its use in PCOS. Non of these women has family histories of diabetes or "faulty diets" that might have predisposed them to this. Also in my experience, none of the women taking metformin found it helped their symptoms at all. Source(s): Nurse. Registered Homoeopath
it can be used for females with infertility problems but can cause multiple pregnancy. yes it is successful.
It can be used for women suffering from Polycystic Ovaries. With PCOS the body produces too much insulin and therefore stores fat, making it hard to lose weight, and easy to put weight on. Metformin regulates the bodies insulin and therefore gets rid of PCOS and helps you lose weight.

I took it for a while but I found that it made me really constipated which in turn made me lethagic and unable to exercise, so I stopped. However, as long as you don't have any side effects, I believe it's meant to be very good.
I used it for a while as I have poly-cystic ovaries. I found I didn't get along with it. I was dehydrated all the time and would have to drink four or five litres of water a day. I saw no improvement in my symptoms for poly-cystic ovaries so gave it up as a bad idea.
Metformin is usually used in the treatment of diabetes. It is a biguanide or glucophage and is the premier drug used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, that is non insulin dependant. There is a slight danger of lactic acidosis which can be nasty, but frequent monitoring should prevent this. Metformin is also used in the treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome.non alcoholic fatty liver disease and premature puberty in young girls. It is considered one of the safest drugs and is well tolerated by most people.
