How many non-diabetics know and understand the difference between Type I and Type II diabetes?

If you think you do, give me a quick one to two sentence explanation. I do, since my son is Type I, but I'm really curious if others do. There is much confusion between the two.

If i remember correctly Type 1 diabetes is when the body doesn't produce insulin. So these people are insulin dependant. With type 2 diabetes I believe insulin is produced but it is not as effective at moving the sugar out of the bloodstream. Type 2 diabetics aren't insulin dependant but they may be put on it to help regulate it. Source(s): Used to be a nursing student
Type II is onset during adulthood
I think Type I is where your body doesn't make enough insulin; Type II is where your body makes too much insulin.
Type 1 = childhood onset.
Type 2 = Adult onset.
I believe type I is genetic, while type II asserts itself in adulthood, usually from health problems related to weight.
I do, but I'm diabetic. I have Type I.
