Is there some place that helps with medical cost for people with no insurance that has diabetes.? |
My brother is 38 and has diabetes but has no insurance. I know there has got to be some place that will help. I am very concerned about him. Along with checking with your local social services office, check with your local health department. Many local health departments have diabetes education programs and can refer you to many resources within your community. They may also be able to help with supplies (such as meters or strips). Chances are that they also offer some sort of support / awareness group as well. Have your brother check with his doctor at his next visit about this issue. His doctor's office could probably provide him with medication samples, depending on the medication he is taking. They could also refer him to outreach service groups in the area that could help. Good luck and best wishes ... Source(s): I am a Diabetes Health Educator and a Type 2 diabetic. Medicare. You can look for outreach programs at your local hospital. Also, your local social services office should have information on Medicaid programs for the uninsured and possibly on government-funded programs that will help pay for his care. Additionally, some of the large medical supply companies may have programs available for those in need, some research here on Yahoo can lead you to their websites. Finally, if your brother is a member of a church, synagogue, temple etc. they may be able to help aid in his care as well. Good luck. Edit: The odds are that he is not covered by Medicare. Generally diabetes does not cause disability (except when left unmanaged!) and at 38 he would be too young to qualify. |
