Can I walk into my doctor's office and say, "Hey, can you test me for diabetes?"? |
Or would that scream hypochondriac? Both me and my husband get tested every year for it. If you have a family history of it or show any of the symptoms it is very important to be tested. I think your dr would be glad to do it. sure!! why not? It would probably be easier to go to a drug store and buy your own kit and follow the instructions. Test yourself and if its high then go to your doctor.. You determine your own health. If someone in your family line has diabetes , or you are overweight you should be tested often. If the doctor says no which is very unlikely then get a different doctor. They can 1st determine a sugar count by a blood test. If you have a regular physician, you can probably call up and say that you have some of the symptoms. They might be able to send a request to the lab for the test without even going for an appointment. OK,if you have a money or health insurance. Yes; it's pretty straight-forward. Be sure not to eat before you go; blood-sugar tests that are not fasting blood-sugars aren't nearly as accurate. If you want a reliable indicator, go to the drugstore, and buy a simple test monitor starter kit. It should have a basic glucometer and a few test strips to get you started, along with a lancet device and some spare lancets, and costs about 20 bucks. Do the test in the morning when you get up, before you've eaten ANYTHING. If the numbers are above 120, then it's definitely time to talk to your doc. http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.a... |
