My blood sugar has been 78 and 51 in the past couple of days is that a sign of diabetes? |
I have broke out in a bad rash and I have been very cold the past couple of days. I have high blood pressure and my cholesterol was high on numerous of ocassions. Diabetes runs on both sides of my family. Both my grandmother's had it and my father has it real bad. No, that is not a sign that you have diabetes. Those are great blood sugar readings. Now if your sugar gets up around 200 or more, then you are in big trouble. But to make sure, go and see your doctor, especially since it runs in your family. No those are low sugar numbers especially that 51 which probably means that you have been sick and not eating. A high sugar is in the 110 and above. Because Diabetes runs in your family you are at a higher risk than someone who doesn't have it in their family. You are borderline and will have to keep a watch on it. High blood pressure and high cholesterol is a pre-symptom to Diabetes. So please go to the doctor and if you are under a doctor care, please remember to take your medicine as prescribed. Probably not. I am not a doctor, but, technically I believe a 51 is a sign of HYPO-GLYCEMIA - your blood sugar is too low. Diabetes means your blood sugar tends to be too HIGH. Yours is too low. You want a reading between 80-115 or so usually. Don't panic because all your other symptoms may cause a low reading. Just call your doctor or nurse and ask about it. Good luck! normally your sugar is not suppose to be over 120 and in your case you are not even in the hundreds! it sounds like you may be hypo-glycemic instead of diabetic. my moms diabetic and my sisters hypo-glycemic Normal fasting blood sugars are 70-110. 51 is indicative of low blood sugar. Were you fasting? In other words, are these your a.m. waking readings? A fasting blood sugar of 126 or higher would indicate diabetes. A postprandial (post meal) blood sugar would likely be between 110 and 150 at 2 hours after eating. Unless you are getting consistently high readings over 126 first thing in the morning or higher than 140-150 2 hours after eating, I doubt you have anything to worry about. However, if you are concerned, see your doctor and get proper testing. I would go to the DR. My grandmother(the one I'm not close to) used to check all her grand kids sugar. My chubby bro got torchered more. I did never paid attention to the sugar blood lecture from her. I just kept away. |
