Is this right: insulin breaks down sugars and if there is low insulin levels in the body you get diabetes.? |
If this isnt right please correct me Insulin is a natural substance that your body makes. It helps the sugar from the food you eat to go from your blood to your body's cells. That way, the sugar you get from food can be used for energy. When you have Type 2 diabetes, your body doesn't make enough insulin. Or, it can't use the insulin it does make. If you have Type 1 diabetes, your body doesn't make any insulin at all. So, the sugar from the food you eat can't get from your blood to your cells. That's why everyone with diabetes tries to have good blood sugar control i don't know the exact and correct answer, but i know that this isn't fully right. i will tell you what i do know though (i'm a diabetic). insulin breaks down carbohydrates and starches into simple sugars so that it can be digested by the body. and diabetes can either be caused by low insulin levels or when insulin is being produced in the body, but is not being used properly by the body. i hope this helps! i'm a diabetic You can also have normal insulin levels & still be diabetic if your body cannot properly USE the insulin. This is called "insulin insensitivity" & is linked to other issues like excessive hunger & polycystic ovaries. Well, you're close. Insulin allows the body to use sugar by enabling the body cells to "accept" glucose. If there is no insulin, the cells cannot use the glucose that is in the bloodstream, no matter how much there is. Insulin doesn't break sugar down - it just enables the cells to take it in and make use of it. I'll refer you to this website for your answer http://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/faq/basics.h... Insulin is a substance made in the pancreas. It must be present for sugar to be taken out of the blood and put into the cells where it provides energy. If your body does not make enough insulin or your cells become resistant to your insulin, then the sugar level in the blood gets high, you stay tired since your muscles etc. have no energy and the high sugar damages small blood vessels in the eyes, the kidney, and the small nerves especially in hands and feet |
