Why do my feet swell whenever I eat salt? Does it have anything to do with the fact that I have diabetes?

Having Diabetes alone will not result to have swollen feet. Swelling of feet and or hands can be brought by high salt intake, heart problem and kidney problem. You might have swollen feet because of too much salt intake. Salt attracts water. The more salt intake you have the more you will become thirsty and crave for water. If you have heart or kidney problem the more it's aggravated.
When you are swelling in your feet whenever you eat food that has too much salt in it, it could be imbalance of kidney function. Kidney and salt are enemies. So sweeling is one way of kidney's communicating to you to avoid salt and see a doctor quickly before it's too late.
have blood pressure tested, they may yank sodium from yer diet, and give you lasix for a time
salt aka sodium grabs on to water and floods your cells, especially in the feet and hands.
how about yes and you need to stop eating the salt
When you eat too much salt your body will retain water to try to dilute the salt in your blood system. The increasing of fluid in the blood vessel will cause the pressure in the blood vessels to go up. Then fluid will leak out into tissue especially the feet (because of gravity).
You've had some good answers to your question so far. As
a person who contends with swollen ankles, and feet/toes,
I have to mention that there is another possibility. I am also
Diabetic and discovered to my amazement, that I now have
Congestive Heart Failure. The main symptoms are swelling
of the legs, and feet and toes. Also there can be pressure
in your lungs, and you may have to prop up your head at
night, rather than lay flat, as it's harder to breathe with CHF.
This can only be diagnosed by a doctor. And preferably
one who deals in diseases of the heart. I had gone to a MD
who didn't notice my legs had become swollen. I thought it
was from the heat of summer making them swell at the time.
So it will pay for you to see your primary and have them refer
you to a doctor who knows his heart diseases. Otherwise
the GP may just put you on Lasex and feel that's all there is
to treatment. That is the major part, but diagnosing the
correct problem often should be left to a specialist. See one
now! Better to be ultra safe these days and not play doctor
yourself.
