What if you went to the doctor and took tests and was told come in you have diabetes and your blood is400? I am assuming your blood sugar was 400, which is about four times the norm (the norm falls somewhere between 70 and 120). A blood sugar that high is very dangerous, and puts you at risk for several ailments, including glaucoma, which can lead to blindness. The list of problems stemming from uncontrolled diabetes is extremely long, including cardivascular disease, renal damage, nerve damage, and even coma. And it sounds like you have some form of diabetes, most likely Type 2, adult onset diabetes. You need to get back to the doctor and get a proper diagnosis and come up with a game plan and appropriate medical assistance. The positive thing to look at - Type 2 diabetes can be controlled, and sometimes even reversed, if you take the steps to living a healthier life. If you are overweight, and lose the weight, and eat a healthy diet, you can sometimes control your sugar levels that way, and not have to take insulin. It sounds like for now that you may have to go on insulin, but just keep your chin up - with proper care and a good diet regimen, you may go back to normal. Good luck! You mean your sugar is 400? That is very, very high. You would probably need to take insulin shots. I would be very concerned. The person with a blood glucose level of 400 is about ready to go into a diabetic coma. The first thing to do is to immediately stop eating and drinking everything that contains sugars and high carbohydrates. I would see a Dietitian and map out a diet plan that will keep the patient healthy and satisfied. I wish you all the best. I assume your doctor means that your Blood Glucose (sugar) is 400. High blood sugar is a sign of diabetes where your body can't control it. High blood sugar for long periods of time can damage your kidneys, eyes, nerves. Make sure you follow up with your doctor This happened to me. Your blood sugar is too high. Go to the doctor and take it from there. It means that your body is not using sugar the correct way and you now need to be on insulin. 400 is VERY high, you need to start on insulin quickly in order to avoid going into a coma. If this is your blood sugar then there is some cause for alarm. Don't however let some of those contributing here freak you out. When I was first diagnosed with diabetes the nurse taught me how to check my sugar in the office on the same visit. I had eaten a super sized French fries, big chicken sandwich and a soda about an hour prior. When she tested me right there I had a sugar level of 418. Very high absolutely and pretty scary, she asked if I was dizzy or felt funny. I felt fine. She told me I had been uncontrolled in my diabetes for a while that my body had gotten used to the high blood sugar so I wasn't feeling the effects. They were not concerned that I was going to go into a coma nor did they give me insulin. They did set me up with a dietician and put me on Metformin 2 500 tabs one with breakfast one with dinner. Now 4 months later my sugar is totally under control. I dropped from 289 to 252 pounds and my average sugar taken twice a day is 118. I also am on a 500 slow release tab once per day. If you had eaten before your test then your results are not entirely accurate. If 400 was a fasting sugar then you defiantly need to see your doctor but freaking out won't help. In the mean time drop drinking sodas and stay away from my favorite food French fries and walk around your neighborhood for about 30 minutes a day. It will help ease any symptoms your feeling now and your doctor will know what to do for you. With a 400 if the doc thought it was a problem he would have put you in the hospital or wanted to see you right away. I'm betting you'll be fine until your appointment. Lastly if you are diabetic get ready for some crazy days. It really does feel like you world is upside down while they go over all that can happen and complications and medications. Just take it one day at a time. If it starts top be too much the internet has tons of great info that can make you feel a little better or at least a little more in control. |
