Diabetes and Alcohol?

Why is some alcohol unsuitable for diabetics? Such as vodka kick, it clearly states on the bottle

"contains caffeine (14mg/100ml) not suitable for diabetics or any persons sensitive to caffeine"

This also appears on red bull type drinks and other alcho pops, why is it not suitable and what happens to a insulin independent diabetic if they were to drink it (had diabetes for around 14 years and almost 18 years old...so what to know for reference when if start drinking at parties etc)

Alcohol LOWERS blood sugar.

Watch out for hi sugar mixers .

Check you blood often and always eat if you drink.
It can even effect you several hours later , so keep an eye on things.

Alcohol metabolized as a sugar. Being diabetic, would you eat sugar cubes? The energy drinks are high in sugar and carbs to give you a quick burst of energy along with the caffeine, which is why those are not suitable for diabetics. The best course of action for you would be to talk with your doctor about your alcohol concerns. The doctor will have a best course of action for you, and be able to tell you the proper insulin to take should you choose to have an alcoholic beverage.
alcohol does a number on your glucose levels(sugar/insulin)...it can be very harmful so diabetics shouldnt drink or only drink in moderation(meaning 1 or 2)
because alcohol ; is hard on your kidneys and so is diabetes. red bulls make your heart beat faster so if you already have high blood pressure it could cause a heart attack.
this is easy the reson these drinks are unsuitable for us diabetics is a mixture of the caffeine ,sugar and alcohol content ,,
alcohol lowers blood sugar so caffeine in these drinks help make the alcohol work faster ,that is why we really shouldn't drink them, apart from that the "fizzy drink" part is higher in sugar than most other drinks so that ain't good for us ,not that i'm advocating drinking alcohol (heehee)but try just vodka and diet juice to start or beer as things work out ok ,also remeber to eat when you are drinking as alcohol lowers the blood glucose ,(most drunks look like they are having a hypo )
Ive been diabetic for 22 years, I used to drink lager, but often woke up in hospital !

I now drink alco pops, have done for years, they do raise your blood sugar, but not to the point that I feel ill or get really thirsty and I don't get a hangover from alcopop either lol. I take my insulin out with me when we go out, just in case, i've never had a problem with it though, I eat before going out and eat something when I get home. warnings on bottles are to protect the makers, you can't sue them if something happens to you, its trial and error if you must drink, but don't think that you can't just because you have diabities, live your life, have fun.
