I have type one diabetes and I am going to camp. Any suggestions?


I am going to camp up by Portola, Ca and I am nervous anout my diabetes. Does anyone have any sugggestions?

Treat this as if you were going on vacation. Follow the same protocols. MAKE SURE you take MORE testing supplies and medications/insulin than you think you will need. Make sure the camp counselors know that you are a diabetic and that they know what to do should something happen. Make sure you have snacks and stuff with you to treat lows and keep it in a safe place where no other campers can get to it and eat it.

What type of camp are you going to? Diabetes camp? Scout camp? Sleep-away camp? Your parents should have already let the camp know that you are diabetic so the necessary arrangments can be made. Once that is done, go and have fun.
