Help!! Just been diagnosed with diabetes, and am confused with the numers. The glucose as well as AIC number |
What should these numbers be. At the moment i get hypoglycemia with the oral medicine that i have been prescribed, even at the lowest dose. I know im new to this whole diabetes thing. Thanks Your glucose numbers should be as follows: 4.0 to 7.0 before meals and 5.0 to 10.0 2 hours after meals. Your AIC number should be 7% (0.07) and should be checked every three months. Normal fasting glucose level (when you haven't ate for a while, what you will find with out eating in the morning) is 60-100 - Regular blood glucose level is 80-120 Go to classes your hospital or other hospitals like kaiser provides, they are very helpful. Good luck and you will get through this. "I can do all things through God who strengthens me" The best place to get information on your questions is from your doctor. Ask about your numbers and also ask him to refer you to a registered dietition. Everyone's diabetes is different - he would be the one to guide you..good luck.. Probably a good place to start is the Diabetes Association. Go on line to find it . I was on meds for a while but my blood sugar dropped too low so I was taken off and am trying to control blood sugar with diet and exercise. In the morning it should be about 100 or less (fasting). Three hours after you start a meal it should be back to normal (whatever normal at the moment is for you). A1C is the average of sugar for three months, Currently they are saying below 6.5. Mine was 10.7 and I have been strict about what I'm doing now so I have 3 months to get it back below 6. Talk to your doctor and go online, there is a lot of information out there. Be sure you are eating appropriately (at least 130 carbs a day - this is needed for proper brain function). Have a fat, carb, and protein at each meal. Count carbs not sugar when reading labels. Good luck Diabetic 2 years You want to stay as close to 90- 110 with the blood sugars. The A1C gives you the average of your blood sugars over a three month period. Pay attention - close attention because once your health deteriorates it is not reversible. Blood Sugar Management http://www.dlife.com/dlife/do/showconten...
