Heart conditions, Alzheimer's and Diabetes?

What are symptoms of an imminant heart attack? I work with this guy who is retired and has all of the above. I called rescue when I thought he was going into noticable symptoms of distress, saved his life. I am a caregiver with 38 years experience and was alone to make the call. I have a pretty good understanding of such conditions but I want feed back from others about what to look for and when to call rescue?

I take care of my mother and she has many of the symptoms of heart attack often, though every time I take her to the doctor he is pleased with her progress. I stand there with my mouth hanging open, there are times when I stand over her and scream, "Breathe, damn!t, or I'm calling 911!". She was complaining of shooting pains in her chest, but she won't go to the hospital and I am helpless in knowing what to do. I am trained in CPR & First Aid and I know there are times I should call them, but she insists there is nothing they can do, so I guess we sit here and let time take it's course. I'll call when I can no longer manage...
