Why does Type 2 diabetes weaken the immune system? |
I know that it DOES weaken the immune system, but I don't know how this happens exactly. It really doesn't weaken the immune system. The immune system even when it is strong is not able to overcome parasites, funguses and bacterias in a high-sugar environment. Think of hunters. If there are lots of deers (germs), hunters(immune system) can kill some. But if the deers (germs) are over populated because of the abundance of food, no matter how strong of a weapon the hunter has, he cannot kill them all. There comes a point when the overpopulation simply cannot be controlled by the hunters. That's what happens in DM. The germs get so thick because of the massive food supply (sugar) your immune system simply cannot kill them all. That's why diabetics have such problems with yeast growth and bacterial infections and even parasites. It only weakens the immune system if you don't take proper steps to control it. My immune system works quite well. In fact, since I've been taking proper care of my type 2 diabetes, I rarely get sick and injuries heal faster now than they did prior to being diagnosed. So, I suspect that in order to properly answer your question, we would have to know what the HbA1C of the person with the compromised immune system is. Mine is 5.8. I'd bet good money that the higher the HbA1C is, the greater the chances are for a weakened immune system. please visit this page you can get good answers. Get well soon!!
