I have type 2 diabetes and take oral meds, how do i lower sugar levels when they get too high?

Lately i have been having trouble regulating my sugar levels and my doc can't see me til the end of the month. I take my meds faithfully and try to follow my diet, but i still get elevated levels. Is there something i can do to lower my levels quickly? Is there something i can eat or drink that will help?

Hi~
Taking a brisk walk always lowers my BG immediately. The longer I walk, the lower it goes. Other exercises might help too. However, there is no "magic bullet" that will bring BG down. There is absolutely no scientific proof that any one ingredient does. Rather, it is your diet and exercise (and meds if taken) combined with it that lowers your BG. If after using a particular ingredient your BG falls, it is because your body is finally able to produce enough insulin to open up your cells to receive the excess BG. Time alone will do that unless you produce no insulin at all. Your problem is excess BG that is causing the elevated levels -- it's as simple as that. And the solution is simple... It's just not easy.

So what can you do to bring your levels down on a regular basis if it's not easy? Get good advice, encouragement, and support to help you. I have a group called Overcoming Diabetes Naturally designed to do just that and you are welcomed to come check it out at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ove...
to see if it might be helpful to you.

From what you said, I get the impression that you are having a tough time with the diet ("I TRY to follow my diet"). That's so understandable. Changing habits is one of the hardest things for us to do. Food gives us such pleasure and comfort. My group helps one another get back on track with tips and techniques for exercising and eating right that have worked for us. We all slip from time to time and even take a break on a special occasion. Generally, this okay and we can get right back on. But, getting more active (doesn't have to be gym style exercises, just activity) and changing our diets to bring it in line with what our bodies truly need instead of what we have whims for, is the real down-to-earth solution. I'd like to see you succeed. A lot of my group have gotten their BG down to normal (including me in about 3 months with no meds) with just diet and exercise. But we all have the ups and downs and we are there for each other to pull us through. Good luck and hang in there.

Hey I know the answer lol ok well I have read this book on natural juices and know some medicine and some nutritional things you can do that will help with your diabetes well with type 2. You have to eliminate sugar and starches from your diet well duhh right or at least minimize them. So anyways here's the deal.....generous amounts of garlic and oninon lower blood sugar levels. Eat lots of raw produce and drink lots of vegetable juice. Eliminate sugar and avoid apples, which elevate blood glucose levels. Cabbage, lettuce and celery all contain sulfur compounds which both increase and decrease blood sugar levels. Cabbage, in particular, seems to delay dextrose absorption. Sting bean juice, which is rich in phosphorous, iron, potassium, magnesium, and vitamin A, seems to help restore the liver, spleen and pancreas, which secretes digestive enzymes and the homrone insulin. Now here's a bonus....you can read all that but if you want a quick fix lol then here's the magic potion.......

Green Bean Tonic
Handful of parsley
2 stalks celery
2 carrots
2 cloves garlic
12 string beans
1 cup ice
Dash of Tabasco tm (optional)
Blend All
I wish you luck and that this information benefits you. Drink plenty of water and try to get on a healthy diet. When I say healthy diet don't think eww just veggies and blah....I have tried healthy diets and they are not bad at all actually they can be quite delicious you wouldn't even know they were healthy. If you crave sweets instead drink water with a straw or anything healthy with a straw it will ease your taste buds and calm your cravings. You can try to eat any of the above to lower your sugar and there are pills of garlic that help with that and cholesterol. Again, good luck, hope all goes well. :)
try eating cinnamon supplements! Also, if you have not done so, cut down on items with high fructose corn syrup! It can be in anything, not just sodas.

Increase your fiber intake. Powder supplemsts are great i think!

100% raw vegan diet. Best and healthiest way. only water, foods form the produce section, and juices extracted by you at home from those foods. Nothing else allowed on the diet, and you don't have to buy anything but food.

I have type 2 diabetes as well. Raw vegan diet helped me get my weight down to a much healthier level, made me feel like exercizing because it gave me more energy, and now my blood sugar problems are gone.

Exercising will burn off the sugar, and drinking lots of water will help dilute it. Just be prepared to go to the bathroom a lot.
