Diabetes Associated With Weight Loss...? |
Is diabetes associated with weight loss? I'm 13 and diabetes runs in the family, and I've been losing weight rapidly...8 pounds this week I believe. I know I'm young but what could be wrong with me? I'm type II and have been for a number of years. Diabetes can cause weight loss but it is no way a 100% foolproof way to diagnose the condition. I must say though it doesn't sound good. See your doctor for an A1C blood test. That will generate a number that can be used to determine your average glucose level for the last 90 or so days. Your doctor will know what to do from there. I hope it is something less dire than diabetes but if it is the "D" word it is better to know than to simply plod along. I have moderate to severe neuropothy in both legs from the knees down to include my feet as well as in my hands. It seems to be irreversible and I have no one to blame but myself. I didn't raise enough fuss early enough to stop it. When I was diagnosed my doctor told me I had probably been diabetic for at least five years prior to my first A1C test. Diabetes really SUCKS but the condition can be managed if you are willing to do it. Like most conditions, early diagnosis is the key to minimizing the damage. So go find out what is happening with your body. It may be nothing but even that information will give you peace of mind. Good luck, and if it is diabetes remember, I accept email at my profile if I can help with diet suggestions or anything else. Unfortunately, yes. Yes, it could be diabetes. Tell your parents right away. You should be seen by a doctor asap. Type I diabetes, what used to be called Juvenile Diabetes, is associated with weight loss. Type 2 is frequently found in overweight people. But that much weight loss so quickly is something to be concerned about regardless of the reason, especially if you are not on some kind of diet program. I think it is time for you to talk with your parents about seeing a doctor to get checked out. Good luck!! Yes but losing a few pounds like that isn't a big deal I'll lose weight then I'll gain it back. If you think that you have Diabetes and you are concerned please see your doctor. |
