My 6.5 yr old son is an 'extremely' picky eater, and last September he was diagnosed with Diabetes number 1,

Can you please offer some great advice for getting him to eat, especially veggies and meat?? I've tried his Diabetic nutritionist & wasn't much help. I've tried adding flavours, and making the foods look fun... Thankyou in advance. He's really skinny too. I'd appreciate your suggestions. Thanks again.

Give him chicken fingers and sweet potato french fries, with frozen yoghurt and berries for dessert. He might go for dipping cut veggies into guacamole and spicy hummus.
Peanut butter and banana sandwiches usually work. I can't imagine anyone not liking low-fat lunch meat on rye (look for the Applegate and Wellshire Farms meats).
Frozen 100% juice popsicles can be quite a treat. Try the chocolate and bread&butter puddings here:

Picky eaters are a pain, my daughter and granddaughter are both picky. I'm a type II diabetic, I suggest that you make a list of the foods he will eat. Don't worry about veggies, kids this age are notorious for fixating on one food. Watch the sugar grams in all of his foods. A good calories and nutritional food book will help a lot. Meats can be substituted with other proteins. Flexibility is the key. A diabetic can eat everything as long as the foods are not eaten in great amounts. Plan his diet around the foods he will eat. All kids like Happy meals, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, hamburgs, mac and cheese. A diabetic diet can be planned around these foods. Try not to make an issue out of his foods, there are few things a child can control, food is one of them.
Plan his menus so that they have cookies, ice cream, and all the things he loves. Try to explain that he cannot over do anything. If he eats Ice cream he will have to give up a similar food. Have him plan his menus with you, encourage him to eat what he plans. Try supplementing his diet with SF mild shakes, he will gain weight. There is nothing wrong with being skinny. we can only hope your good training will encourage a life time control of his diabetes. It is very important to monitor is BS and give him his medication. He can graze all day and keep his blood sugars in normal range.
In fact, grazing may be the answer to your problem along with feeding his favorite foods. By the time he is 21 his menu will be more adult. I hope this helps you,
Frances
