My father and brother have diabetes, will my children and i get it as well ? |
my father actually died with it. my brother has just been diagnosed It would depend what sort of diabetes your father and brother had. If it was type 1 then there is a chance that you will get it before adulthood. If your father was type 2 (adult onset) there is no heredtary element of that, its a disease of lifestyle rather than genes. Just because your brother has what I assume is type 1 that does not mean that you will get it. Its a chance that you can get it,the best thing to do is monitor your glucose sugars, and or go see a doctor and get tested before and if you get diabetes. not for sure but you have about 70% chance of getting it. It normally skips a generation, my oldest son has it, and his grandparents on both sides had it, My brothers, and sisters do not have it, nor do I. Please be very vigilant with your children, and if they display even the remotest sign, get them to the doctor. Good luck Its a chance that you can get it,the best thing to do is monitor your glucose sugars, and or go see a doctor and get tested before and if you get diabetes. Their is a higher risk, but eat properly and exercise and you may be lucky. You could certainly put it off till your old age. hi u should realy ask your doctor if your that worried takecare |
