New (again) to contacts...very dry eyes....so any helpful hints? |
I wore contacts for about 8 years (1994-2002) and never had any issues at all with them. I went back to glasses in 2002 (just for a change of pace) until last week. I went back to the eye doctor and had the eye exam and contact fitting. I bought Biofinity contacts and I am having horribly dry eyes. When I take the contacts out my eyes are turning really bloodshot. I have been using OptiFree drops almost every hour while wearing the contacts in order to keep my eyes moist. However it is just not enough. I woke up last night about 3 hours after taking the contacts out, and my eyes were so dry they felt as though they were on fire!! I put more drops in and finally after about an hour they felt normal again. Anyone had this issue? How did you correct it? Or is there a way to correct it? I went back to the eye Doctor today. They changed me to ProClear lens. I wore them for 4 hours today and my eyes feel MUCH better!! Hopefully the problem has been cured and it will be smooth sailing from here!! THANKS for all the help!! try switching solutions. try different re wetting drops ACUVE ADVANCE WITH HYDRO CLEAR Sounds like you need a different prescription. Not strength, but type of contact. Maybe something with a higher water content. Considering your eyes are normally covered with moisture and the contacts are increasing the surface area with their curvature it sounds like you need: YES, there is a way to fix it. Like you, I had this very same problem. No doctor helped, I figured it out myself. I sleep with my eyes open and that causes my eyes to dry up. I too wear contacts and have dry eyes. What I do is every night before I go to bed, I put a couple of drops in each eye with Allergan's Refresh Liquigel and a couple of drops once I wake up. Make sure to put these drops in before you put on your contacts. I used to think it was my contacts that was causing the problem. For you, I suggest not wearing your contacts for a few days in the meantime, start using these drops. Then start wearing the contacts again. I hope this helps because it did for me. Maybe the lenses doesnt match well with the solution. Biofinity is one of the best lenses. Or maybe u should stop wearing the lenses for few days then resume wearing. It does help I have dry eyes and I've been told it's not at all unusual for older women to develop this problem when they start going through menopause. I use prescription eyedrops and wear contact lenses but not for the extended periods I used to. I can only wear them for a few hours at a time. That's what you might have to do, too. |
