Contacts solution burns, reaction or dry eyes, what happened?

I have worn contacts since I was 15 (I am 23 now) but I stopped wearing them completely about 8 months ago because my eyes began to sting, then finally burn, so badly when I'd put them in after they soaked in solution for cleaning. Once this summer I decided to put them in my eyes and man did they burn, I took them out and rinsed my eyes, it hurt so bad. I have been having problems with really dry eyes since about a year ago (unrelated to the contact lenses), can this cause problems with stinging and contacts solution? Or how about, can someone develop reactions to solutions they never had reactions to before? The solution is Renue and I had been using it since I was 15, and the brand of contacts I'd been using since about five years ago.

Also, sometimes I'd try the method of rinsing them with contact eye drops instead of multipurpose solution after taking them out of the case, and they still burned (contact drop solutions are just saline solutions, right? I can't remember)

I have really dry eyes but I have never had a problem with the contact solution burning them before. When I put my contacts in after a good soak (I wear extended wear contacts) they feel really good. I would think that you have developed a sensitivity to the contact solution. If I were you, I would see your eye doctor about this and get him to recommend you a solution that is more gentle. Therma-tear eye drops are really good for dry eyes.

ReNu had a recall. Please read this site

Try using Unisol solution, it does not contain thimerasol which really burns.
Be sure you are using a saline solution to rinse them and not a cleaner.

This might be the problem with the contacts and the solution not being able to mix well.Renu is a good brand of solution but wht brand of lenses u r using? cos i heard that 'complete' solution cannot be mixed with purevision. the ebst is to approach ur eye doc for a better review of the eyes.

Bausch & Lomb did have a recall on the Renu solution. It's possible you may have some solution that was in the recalled batch.

I would try another type of solution, maybe Opti-Free RepleniSH. It is designed to help the contacts hold moisture while you are wearing them. That should help you, along with some eyedrops that are made to moisturize while wearing your lenses.

It would also be a good idea to contact your eye doctor, and explain what's going on to him/her. He may be able to offer some suggestions.
