Dry eye and pain?

Since about autumn this year, my eyes have been feeling a little irritated-like while chopping onions. I think this may be due to dry air?

One time I was out all day long and it was a dry and windy day. That night I had trouble taking off my contact lens. It was a horrible experience because for all these years of wearing contacts, I've never had this problem before.

Last week, I started to have some eye pain on and off. So I attriubuted it to staring at the computer all day long.

I hope to find some better contacts so I tried a sample. I was out late and when I tried to take off the lens, I couldn't. This time it took me about an hour to take the contacts off (of course I didn't do it constantly).

After that I didn't wear contacts for a few days. Yet my eyes still feel dry, tired and some pain.

Is the pain just due to dry eye? And the new contacts (which were samples) just didn't work for me? Does the curve and hardness have to do with it?

Very scared.

Eventhough I used lots of lubricant to wet my eyes, I couldn't take the sample contacts off.

I just went to an eye doctor on Monday with the same problem. I also wear contacts (for 40 years) and had to remove them due to irritation. The doctor said it was dry eye and I needed to use drops every 2 hours for at least a week. Sometimes it takes that long for the eyes to get better. The drops are very important. Good Luck. I also use restasis but still need the drops.

The curve of the lense definately plays a role in why your eyes feel this way. Since your eyes are accustomed to the other ones you used, this new one could have caused the dryness due to ill fit. You should give your eyes a rest and use some eye drops and keep your liquid intake up. Sounds like you could start an infection. Stick to your usual lenses, I am sure that you wont have this problem long.

I don't know how old you are but I also suffer from dry eyes and my eyecare specialist says that it is a symptom of menopause. I'm in my late 40s so it is possible. For me, it's a problem that has only cropped up in recent years. I was able to wear constact lenses for years for up to 12 hours a day without problems. Now, I can only wear them for a few hours at a time because the irritation I get after a while forces me to remove them. In my case, it looks like this will be pretty much a permanent problem and so I will have to use eyedrops for the rest of my life.
