Is there something you can use to loosen dried on eye boogers for a dog without hurting him?

we adopted a yorkie he has dried eye boogers real bad and i dont know how to get them loosened up enough to get them off without hurting him he is not very trusting and jumps when we try to even get close to the problem i feel bad for him is there something that i can buy to loosen them up

For my pets we used to wet a cotton ball in warm tea and that worked really well. You ca try that. Don't be afraid of hurting your dog, just have a firm but gentle hand when you do it, you can practice on your own eyes to see how much pressure to put on.

To prevent your dog from jumping get a spoon of peanut butter and let him lick it while you work on his eyes. This usually work wonders for clipping nails and grooming. Squeeze cheese works as well!

If it keeps going on for long take your dog to the vet.

When you can, get him into your lap and calm him down. Take a warm wash cloth and do your best to let it sit on the spots where there are dried tear marks on his face. It will get them wet on the inside out and make them easier to get off.

Sometimes, dogs with long hair have to get them cut out because the hair has grown around and through them if they've been on there for a while. I would try the warm cloth and then pulling them off (using the cloth), or taking him to the groomers.

A lot of times, if you bathe him using warm water through a hose, they're easy to remove after the bath too, for the same reason as the cloth.

Yep,just keep wiping gently with a warm ,damp washcloth and they will come off. Or,you can take him to the vet for a well- dog check and have the vet remove the gunk.

I'd try some saline. It's gentler on the eyes than water. Soak a cotton ball, and gently press against the "eye booger" so it can soak it up and soften, then wipe away.

Our Vet techs usually just slowly slide them off. I prefer a little bit of olive oil applied with a Q tip. Safe and effective. We have two Yorkies.
