Can too much crying dry out your eyes ?

my grandpa just died & my family has been crying for the past 3 hours. can that ever happen ?

I'm very sorry for your loss. I'd like to send my condolences.

As for your question, yes it can. It is VERY healthy to cry, as it releases excess proteins and such. But if you do it alot, as in several nights in a row without much stopping in between, then the skin under your eyes can become dry and sore, and your eyes can be dry too. Personally I would get some eye drops for dry eyes. That may help. And be sure to use soft tissue with lotion when your wiping away tears, and don't "Wipe" them away, because this can also cause eye damage, instead blot the tears. Blotting is better for your eyes and the sensitive skin around them. Hope this helps. Again, very sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear about your grandpa. I don't think you can truly damage your eyes from crying, but sooner or later you will probably get very irritated red eyes that will stink from the excessive amount of rubbing and such that happens when you cry.

All in all, crying is very healthy and a good emotional release to let you and yours continue on with life.

Best of luck.

omg i'm soo sorry for u and ur family! i hope everything turns out ok.

i've heard that u know, its actually good for u to cry every now and then (sry if that was confusing) i don't think your eyes will "dry out" but they might get red and stuff. so i wouldn't worry about drying out too much.

Lol it's funny how you can think about drying eyes when your grandpa just died. You have a morbid sense of humor. Funny, but morbid.
