Will using regular eye drops for dry eyes counteract my Husband's Glaucoma medication drops?

My Husband was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with Glaucoma... he has been given Xalatan (medicated eye drops) for now to see how effective that is at treating the eye pressure. The medication, which he takes at night, has left his eyes very dry most of the day...but he's worried about using regular eye drops to take care of that.
Would taking eyedrops for dryness during the day affect the effectiveness of the medication he takes before bed? Also... if it would be ok.... which would be better saline drops or something more like Visine

Listen to the pharmacist. Don't forget to take the Xalatan but your husband can use dry eye drops all day long if he wants. it'll get expensive but he can do it. the only thing that you want to avoid is taking drops (artificial tears) within 5 minutes of the Xalatan, it may wash it out. have your husband hold his nose as close to his eyes as possible just after taking the Xal, it will slow down the drainage so it can absorb better. I am not a doctor, but have an opinion. I think you should call your doctor to be secure in the truth. My grand father had Glaucoma. The medication is regarding the pressure. Something like tears will help with the dryness. Visine has lots of advertisements, but don't seem to be the best in quality. Unsure of the spelling, but something like Syntane is what 2 different eye doctors I've seen recommended. You can purchase that at a Walmart store by the Visine section. The question I would ask is if one medication counteracts with the other. Call your doctor. They will be happy to help.
Take your prescription medicine as directed, faithfully. Improperly treated glaucoma can lead to blindness.

It is really important for him to continue taking the xalatan but there is no reason why he can't use a lubricating drop to help relieve the dry eyes. Don't use anything that claims to relieve red eyes as these have an ingredient in them that will increase the pressure in the eye. If in doubt of which one to choose either ask your pharmacist or Dr to recommend you one.
