Are dry eyes linked to overall dryness (such as skin?)? |
I've just been diagnosed with dry eye. I've always had very dry skin and dry hair. I had my thyroid removed six years ago, though I am on synthetic thyroid hormone and my tests come back normal. Does anyone know if these things are related? Is there anything I can do in addition to following through with my ophthalmologist's treatment? well i have kerotoconus and had a cornea transplant almost 2 years ago and after wards was diagnosed with severe dry eye in BOTH eyes. i think it has alot to do with age..did your doc prescribe Restasis? Restasis is used to retrain your eye to make more moisture on its own. also there is a thing called a tear duct plug (both temp and permanent) I used the temp one for awhile but felt weird. As far as Restasis I stopped using the Restasis for awhile after about a year cause I needed to get my prescription refilled and it wasn't filled for about 2 weeks and felt ok without it but when I went back using it I started to get dry eye again. so I do nt use it anymore, i guess thats cause it did its job and retrained my eye but I still use Refresh gel and refresh contacts once in awhile. I think using eye stuff is like when we use too much nasal spray our bodies become dependent on that stuff and stop doing it on its own so I am going very easy on the drops. I don't know anything about thyroid sorry could be caused by alot of things have them checked i thought i had pink eye and i never had it b4 but it was something else caused by swellin of the vessels caused by either arthritis or just a random thing. and had to use sterodic drops in my eye Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and use a face pack of ripe bananas and honey.
