Any natural solutions for dry eyes? Does fish oil work? |
Any natural solutions for dry eyes? Does fish oil work? first...NEVER put anything in your eye that is not designed for opthalmic use (must say: opthalmic use only). Solutions that go into the eye must be sterile...otherwise you can cause some serious burning, irritation and/or infection that can cost you your vision. as for drops for dry eyes....plain old saline (found with the contact lens solutions) is the cheapest way - saline is the same as natural tears, so it can be used as frequently as necessary. If you need something thicker, try Genteal drops (eyedrop section). They are preservative free and very gentle...but they stick around for a little longer to give you more comfort. There's a drop version, ointment and gel version. I recommend the gel type (it's actually more like a liquid gel). Also look at what might be causing it - if you're on antihistamines for allergies, this can cause dry eyes, nose and mouth (as do several other drugs). If the drops don't help, talk to your doctor or eye doctor. fish oil ???? i don`t think so , but try to put some orange blossom water in cotton and put it in ur eyes and relax DON'T PUT FISH OIL IN YOUR EYE , BUT THE CAPSULE COULD HELP. FISH OIL IS GREAT. IT REDUCES YOR RISK FOR HEART ATTACK AND STROKE. IT IS GREAT FOR YOUR HEART! TRY 2-3Grams DAILY. Taking (in pill form) fish oils (omega-3s) is a treatment for dry eye when the problem is related to a deficient lipid layer in the tear film. The lipid layer helps hold in the tears and when this layer is deficient, the tears evaporate faster, causing dry eye. in optometry school _Swallow_ the fish oil -- don't put it in your eyes! If your dry eye problem was caused by lack of dietary oils, then this may help. If your case is caused by insufficient hydration, mucus issues or exposure to environmental conditions, then oils won't solve the problem. Natural medications - Flax seed oil (orally, not eyes) - Hydroeyes capsules (orally, not eyes) ... Currently undergoing clinical trials. It won't hurt and may help. - Similasan Eye Drops - homeopathic eye drops ... Visine is known to work; this isn't. Drink more water. Blink more - Take breaks during high concentration tasks such as writing or using the computer. Conserve Tears - Slow down evaporation with a humifier, wrap-around glasses, and a sleeping mask. Avoid causes of dry eye - Environmental: hot rooms, dry places, or windy spots under fans or vents. - Poorly lubricated contacts Medications that can cause dry eye * Diuretics, drugs commonly used to treat high blood pressure * Antihistamines and decongestants * Sleeping pills * Birth control pills * Tricyclic antidepressants * Isotretinoin-type drugs for treatment of acne * Opiate-based pain relievers such as morphine * Some herbs I just want to say NEVER NEVER NEVER put anything in your eyes that is not made for your eyes. People have gone BLIND FOREVER by doing stupid things like this. Listen to the other posters saying this, and their advice it is really good. |
