Any suggestions regarding ptosis and having chronic dry eyes? Hello, Ptosis and dry eyes may or may not be related symptoms of an underlying medical condition. So, as part of a thorough medical examination, make sure to request that a neurological evaluation be done. The nerve that maintains your eyelids up is called: "cranial nerve number three", which is one of twelve cranial nerves (CN I-XII) that derive from specific regions of the brain and perform specific functions. In contrast, the nerve that shuts your eyelid is CN VII (cranial nerve number seven), which also happens to be the one involved in keeping your eyeballs moist. To determine whether a relationship exists between dry eyes and ptosis woul best be answered by either a neurologist or an Ear-Nose-Throat (oto-rhyno-laryngologist) licensed physician. Source(s): www.aafp.org I assume you have had a complete medical evaluation and are already on appropriate medications. Other than that, you can consider plastic surgery to help the ptosis (drooping of the eyelids), and use eye drops for dry eyes. ptosis can be treated by local Botulinum Toxin ( Butox ) injection by an ophthalmologist. I have eyerhitis. Also my tear ducts are a fourth of the normal size. My doctor recommended Systane drops. They are over the counter. They are the same as restasis eye drops he says. srry none from me i use systane eye drops. My eye dr also put temporary eye plugs in my tears ducts to keep my eyes moist. That didn't work for me |
