What does one do about dry eyes?

I wake up every morning with dry eyes...and I dunno why! I have to force myself to yawn in order for them to tear up. Eye drops don't work at all, they last for like a minute then they are dry again... Will dry eyes cause any blindness in the future?

No, some people have chronic dry eyes, talk to an ophthalmologist about your issue. Did you only try one brand of eye drops?

Talk to your optometrist about punctal plugs.

well the only thing i would have known to suggest would be eye drops. Talk to an eye doctor

Assuming you are not sleeping with contact lenses in: There are several different types of artificial tears that you can buy OTC. Refresh is a really good one and they also make a drop that's thicker so that it lasts longer. Ask your eye doctor to recommend one for you. You do NOT want to use Visine or anything that "gets the red out"...those will not help your problem and drops that "get the red out" aren't very healthy for your eyes anyway because the way they constrict the blood vessels.

You can go to the doctor and have them test you for chronic dry eye syndrome. There is a prescritpion drop, I believe its Restatis (I think - its been a while since i've worked in the Ophthalmologists' office) that can help people with this condition. But if you are only noticing the dryness in the morning, a few drops of Refresh artificial tears may do the trick.

Dry eyes will not cause blindness.
