Why do / can eating disorders cause depression?

Eating Disorders are not just about food and weight. They are an attempt to use food intake and weight control to manage emotional conflicts that actually have little or nothing to do with food or weight. People with eating disorders are struggling with a number of emotional problems. There are two reasons that caused the eating disorder: Psychological Factors and Social Factors.

- Low self-esteem
- Depression, anxiety, anger, or loneliness
- Difficulty expressing emotions and feelings
- History of being teased or ridiculed based on size or weight
- Cultural pressures that glorify "thinness" and place value on obtaining the "perfect body"

Those are reasons that caused eating disorders and depression.

Actually, I'm sure both the depression and eating disorder would most likely stem from the same source, not one from the other.

People with eating disorders already suffer from sort of depression.
People with eating disorders feel like they aren't good enough or need control and they do it through their eating habits.
So depression can cause a eating disorder not the other way around
