Eating Disorders in Pregnancy?

Why does having an eating disorder increase your chances of needing a C-section? Is it any eating disorder, or is it JUST anorexia, or JUST bulimia, or JUST COE, or whatever?

Ok, i know eating disorders are bad during pregnancy. That wasn't my question. My question was just out of curiosity. I'm just trying to find the correlation between EDs and specifically needing a C-section.

i suffered from anorexia when i fell pregnant, thankfully my wanting a healthy baby has overwritten the urge to stay thin , plus i have been receiving treatment for it at the time too, still am. my psychologist warned me at the beginning of pregnancy that anorexia can cause the baby to be small for dates, or cause you to go into preterm labour (both due to lack of nourishment) in which case babies are almost always deliverd by c-section because they can't handle the stress of a natural birth as well as a baby born at term and of a healthy weight.
if you suffer from an eating disorder, do yourself a favour and try and get help. i know it can be hard asking for help, but you and your baby will benefit in the short and the long run.

thats bad for yourself and the baby

ANY type of eating disorder can affect the growth of your baby. Not only is the mother not providing the necessary food and nutrients to the baby, she is also stripping the baby of any nutrients left. The reason it increases the chances of having/needing a C-section is because the baby may have health problems that needed quick attention and can no longer wait until the mother goes full term.

it increases your chances of your baby not being ok at all..

I would say any eating disorder is bad for the mom and the baby..

For if you are thowing up your food, not eating food, or just drinking liquids, then the baby is starving.. Look at Nicole Ritchie, the baby saved her life, for she knew that she needed to eat or the baby would die!!

I think if you have an eating disorder you will not be a great person for having a baby!! First get the help that you need and then have a babY!! For it is not the baby who needs to suffer!!
