My mom has an eating/weight disorder HELP!!? |
She is 5'9" and about 110 lbs. She does not LOOK like it though she looks very thin. She goes up to 2-3 days without eating anything just coffee, beer and cigarrettes. Her and her boyfriend drink all day everyday. She cracks one around 10 AM. I know she has a drinking problem as well. When she does eat she eats very little not enough to even fill one normal person up for one meal. She thinks she is FAT!!! She really does and refuses to get on a scale or tell me how much she weighs. ( This comes up because I ask her if she's anorexic ) She is also very depressed with very few friends, they all left her because her boyfriend who she lives with is an A** and I know that she is definitly depressed. She will admit to that but not to an eating disorder. I don't know what I can do as she is a grown woman and if she dosn't want help what can I do? It makes me sad because I will go to give her a hug goodbye and she is soo small and boney. What can I do please help me.... Is it anorexia? I am not sure if it is anorexia or not, because a lot of people who have a drinking problem (which you said your mom may have) often do not eat properly. your mom may have a drinking problem from what it sounds like, and many alcoholics often do not eat right, or at all when they are binging on alcohol. However, since she thinks she is fat, and seems to avoid the scale, she may have an eating disorder as well (because she seems afraid of weight issues). I think you should talk to your mom about your concerns in a way that is loving, with concern but not accusations. Try to be nice, not argue. Just say that you are concerned because you care about her and want her to be healthy. You can tell her that you why what she is doing upsets you, but try to stay calm about it (don't yell, if you can help it). It may take several conversations. If that doesn't work, you can try callling her doctor to tell him your concerns. You can tell him/her that you think your mom might have an eating disorder or drinking problem, and list your reasons why (over the phone), but keep in mind the he/she can't tell YOU much of anything because of the patient privacy laws. He/she will at least be aware of the situation that way, and might be able to talk to your mom about it at her next appointment. Just remember that your mom's doctor won't be able to call you back & keep you updated about her condition, or what she discusses with him/her because it would be against the privacy laws. Unfortunately, this is about all you can do until your mom decides she WANTS to change. AWWW.... it does sound like an eating disorder. You are correct; she does indeed have an eating disorder, and she is almost certainly an alcoholic as well. Unfortunately, much as I would like to be able to tell you something else, this is something she will have to decide on for herself if it is going to stop. The only person in the world you can ever change is yourself, no matter how much you love someone. yes and tell her to e-mail me at chschoir2008@yahoo.com cause i am ana right now |
