Middle Aged Woman who may have an eating disorder- my mother. Help please.?

My mom is a great woman, she is also shedding pounds faster then any one ive ever seen. She weighed 170 pounds when we moved here durring the summer, kept that weight for the next few months and recently was divorced from my dad of 28 years and at work made feel inferior. She has plumited down to 130 pounds which would be healthy if she worked out to get there, and if she hadnt weighed 170 pounds. She claims she eats but I never see it, she claims she is working out lots but I never see that. She is loosing five pounds a week and every thing she owns is bagging and falling off of her. I am her only hope because no one else cares enough to give it the time. What should I do? I am a 19 year old girl on her own and I no my mom has a problem and if she keeps this up it will become a tragedy and something that could have been avoided. IT sickens me to think she is doing this to her self, that I havent seen her eat in weeks.

Ok. 40 pounds is a lot to lose. How long did it take? A healthy weight loss is about 1-2 pounds a week. This means it should have taken her about 5 months for a safe weight loss. If it took less than this then maybe you are right and that she does have an eating disorder. Though, you say you don't think she has been working out? Most people with eating disorders do work out a lot. Just eating less is not that effective. To lose weight, you need to exercise as well as eat healthily. Do you live with her? If you do, I think you should watch her. Watch to see if she eats, and that she dosent throw it up either. I also think you should confront her. Tell her you are worried because you care about her.

Go on here. It is an eating disorder website
