How do I talk to my friend about her eating disorder?

I know my friend has an eating disorder, but she doesn't know that I know. The last thing I want to do is gang up on her, and I really don't want to tell her parents. We have just started to become close this year, and I want to build up our relationship more, but I don't want it to be too late. I don't want her to go so far under that there is no help for her.
Recently I've noticed that she has been talking to other people who have an ED and they are encouraging her to stay strong and to stay thin. They give her pointers on how to get through the day without eating. It's like some out of wack support group.
I really care about her and I don't want to attack or hurt her, but I've never had to deal with anything like this before.
She is a very talented person and an amazing writer, but lately in her work she has been talking about how all she wants is someone to help her, but I just don't want to go about it in the wrong way. I don't want to make things worse or to push her away.

The problem is her and her parents REALLY don't have a good relationship... and I think that it would actually make things A LOT worse, otherwise I would have done it a long time ago.

Don't specifically mention the fact that she has an eating disorder at first. It'll be easier if you just let her know you are there for her and that she can tell you anything. Avoid talking about food and weight for a while when you're around her. You can also try sitting her down and letting her know something is up, and that you want to help her.

As long as she doesn't feel attacked or confronted, you're on your way. If you start her off on her road to recovery, you're doing ok. She just needs to know she has a friend she can trust. The process is hard and slow, so be prepared.

I would probably tell her parents. She sounds liek she needs professional help. She is not going to just stop without it......people that have eating disorders are like drug addicts, they need help!!!

you should invole her parents that is serious life threaten business and maybe this problem is beyond your help and she may need a professional don't risk her life get her some help!!!!!

Start out by saying" I have been noticeing something seems to be bothering you and I just want you to know that I care about you and will always be here for you if you ever need to talk about anything". Then drop it for a little while to see if she opens up to you. "

Sorry but you are going to have to tell her parents, even if that means the end of your friendship as anorexia is a mental health issue that can last her whole life.
If I were you, I like to use my fits, I'd threaten to beat the crap out of these people egging her on.
