Is My Sister Developing a Eating Disorder?

Recently I've Been Noticing my older sister has developed wierd eating habits.

At breakfast she'll have half a bowl of cereal and a small drink.

She'll eat lunch as late as she can, clamining she is not hungry, she'll sometimes try and miss it, or just have the smallest amount she can.

At dinner she'll always leave about 1/4 of her food. She just says she's not hungry, so my mum gives her a smaller portion, but then she still leaves about 1/4. When we are all eating I notice she eats really slowly or just picks at the food and spread it around so it looks like she has eaten most of it.

I also noticed she's been drinking loads of water. She used to only drink like 3glasses...now its like a half-pint glass every hour or so.

Is she developing an eating disorder?
I know she thinks she is fat since she has gone up a clothes sizre...but thats genuinly because she is tall....What Do I do?

It sounds like it could be the start of an eating disorder. My sister used to suffer from bulimia here's my advice.

Talk to your mother about your concerns, then the both of you sit down with your sister and confront her about it. If she denies that there's anything wrong and that she just has a low appetite, then agree to silence the subject, however...

People with eating disorders develop them because of a need to control things. They become obsessive about their routines, so there are some tricks you can do to see if she is lying. I'll assume your house has a set of scales. Hide them, put them somewhere only you or your mother knows about. If your sister becomes highly agitated when she cannot weight herself, it's likely that she is developing an eating disorder.

Check to see if your sister keeps a food diary, often the compulsion to record everything that is consumed in details is associated with those who suffer from eating disorders.

If you share a computer, then look in the history cache, if it has been purged, then it's likely she also got to it first, but if it's all there, then search for the following words; ed, thinspo, thinspiration & mia. If any of those come up in the history, again, it's definite.

If she IS developing an eating disorder, then she needs help right away. You can try to deal with it as a family or get her professional help. Victims of eating disorders sometimes learn to hide there obsessions well and can go years without being noticed. If she is suffering from an eating disorder, then get her help now before it takes control of her whole life.

Yeah she has a eating problem. You should talk to your mom about it.

It does sounds like it..
You should talk to her first about and see whats really going on, if you can.
If not there is on time to waste and you should tell your parents.

I think she might but the only eating disorder experience I've had is in books but it's a definete possibility, you should talk to your parents and even her, she might get mad at you but it's definetly for the best if you talk to her.

It really sounds like she has the start of an eating disorder. You can try talking to her and see how she responds. If she is not willing to talk about it then you need to sit down with your parents and talk to them. It is so much easier to get help for someone with an eating disorder at the beginning of their disorder.

Talk to her about it, ask her if something is wrong. If she denies it, just keep pushing. If I were in your situation, I would be more concerned about her health than about your relationship with her. And if she wants to lose weight, there are many healthy ways to do it. Good luck.

The frequency of eating disorders in young female teenagers has been variably estimated at 5-50%! depending on how you define this and what you include.

Your sister is clearly trying to control her weight (drinking a lot water etc) but you have not told us that she is losing weight. Limiting food intake reasonably and drinking lots of water are actually healthy practice, unless of course it is overdone resulting in signficant weight loss.

Don't panic. If she loses lots of weight it will become apparent and she will need to see her doctor.

She probably has. Talk to your mom and have her talk to your sister. It will probably be worth while.

all i can suggest is to mention it to ur parents, and let them deal with it.

Yes she is developing a disorder. Either that or else something is wrong to cause her to lose her appetite.

Shes trying to lose weight!! Try to get her to exercise if she really really wants to lose weight but diseating is sometimes unhealthy

noo she is not. she is eating contiously, which mean shes eating slower and enjoying the food. im overweight and i started doing it and it makes me full and i leave about half my food. so no, you have nothing to wrry about, and there is nothing wrong with water. dont listen to other people because then dont know what there talking about

It could be an eaitng disorter, or she could just be going through a groth spert even if she has already had one. Alot of times when you go through puberty or have strange growth sperts you do not feel the urge to eat alot.

Talk to her in a kind way, so that she knows you are worried about her. If she is trying to lose weight, it sounds though she is trying do it in a good way. Make sure she knows that she needs to eat regularly and have a balanced diet, in addition to drinking water. It is not good for growing girls to miss out on vitamins and nutrients.

yes she is developing an eatting disorder. thats what i started with at first saying i wasn't hungry and hiding food so my parents thought i ate. you should confront her and talk to her about it but be sensitive. help her now before it gets worse.

maybe you should tell your mom about what you have seen, and maybe she is thinking the same thing and you guys could help her. tell your mom you are very worried about her and you think that she should go see a doctor.
if she is really skinny than you should talk to your mom today!
because it could turn into anorexia and she could die.
I dont mean to make it sound so harsh but that is what will happen if you dont get her help soon.. Please help her out.
Hope I have helped

its possible that she is devloping anorexia. u should try to talk about it with her. if u guys are very close then that makes it much easier. if she ammits it to you then ask her why she is doing it and if she wants to talk about it. if she says no and then you notice that she starts eating more then that is a good sign. well, good luck!!!
