Will I be sent away? (Eating Disorder)? |
I have an eating disorder. I regularly eat about 600-800 calories a day, then burn off 300-500 a day in the gym. But some days, I binge eat and can eat up to 4000 calories, but I've never purged. I'm constantly counting my calories and obsessing with my weight, but I want to stop. I've told my mom a little bit, just that I'm unhappy with my weight a lot, and she said she can find a good therapist for me if I want one. But I'm afraid, if I tell the therapist what I do, will I be sent away to a hospital or some rehab-type place? My friend was sent away for almost three months and missed a LOT of school and might have to be held back. I don't want that to happen to me. Help? Firstly well done for talking to your mum, that takes courage. Seccondly I would really advise seeing the therapist. Tell her everything, and say to her that you want to get it sorted out without going into hospital. As long as you co-operate and try to stick to her plan for you, she won't consider hospitalisation if you don't want it unless you are dangerously underweight and in urgent need of treatment in which case it wouldn't be such a bad thing anyway. By seeing a counseler you will immediately take some of the pressure off your own shoulders, as admitting that you need help is the first step. You will probably feel better because they really help simply by providing an ear to listen and they are generally really caring and always supportive. Tell them that you want to get better, but not put on weight, this way she can help you plan a healthy diet and exercise plan that you will be happy to follow and will be much healthier than having an eating disorder. Don't worry about being sent away like yeour friend, tell the psych that you can't miss that much school and that the added catch up work will only make you more stressed and ill. I have been through all this **** before, but never been sent away because if you ademantly deny it, it is really unlikely that they will hospitalise you. Take advantage of the fact that your mum has offered to get you this help, it will really help you get better. Good luck xx email me if you would like it sounds to me like you would benefit from outpatient help. you don't need to be sent away. I'm so happy to hear your ready to stop. That's half the battle. IF you trust your therapist, then you can tell her or him all about your desire for change. Out patient help is common and you can work with a dietician to stick to a great food plan and you can share your story with others, it will help you recover. I know, this is a hard recovery yet with God's help.. it's all possible! Trust God to guide your steps to healing. talking to a therapist is a good thing... u sound like ur on the kimskin diet... and btw i have done the same thing ur doing... i also have been through the starving myself and puking things up... talking to the therapist shows u want to change and become better... which they wont send u away for... only if ur getting very very ill are they gonna put u in a hospital... i suggest u start eating healthy and working out ... u will lose weight by eating the right foods and exercising ... u continue to starve ur body of wat it needs like ur doing... and it will begin feeding offa other organs and bones... because ur body has nothing else to eat... u eat and burn it off so it has to pull from wat ur hoping is fat... but thats simply not true... it does eat offa fat but it will also pull from other organs to eat the nutrients it needs... ur body fat can not give it the nutrients other organs can... so if u dont stop ull probly end up dead... hairless.. and sickly looking... take the therapist. you wont be sent away. just try to stop and help yourself. Here a idea what you need to do is set a weight liment and make shore you don.t go below that You will probably not be "sent away" unless your weight becomes dangerously low... You can be sent away at any time. I believe all that is needed is two signatures from people that are concerned about your health. Ex: Your parents. You won't necessarily stay away though. They'd do an evaluation of you to determine how much of a risk you are to yourself. I don't know anything about you, but I can say, from personal experience, that you seem to be on the right track for bulimia. I'm about 3 years into it and let me tell you, once you get there, it's damn near impossible to stop. you wont be sent away unless your weight is low, or your potassium etc is messed up. er, where are you? that makes a difference to. depending on your age, it also depends what your mother wants to do about it. (ie if she wants you hospitalised). your therapist wont just send you away, are you uk? if so, not manhy nhs hospitals deal with that unless you very underweight. if you have to be sent "away" you can try to go when school isnt happening. Are you in the US? 3 months is the "normal" US insurance (or any private health insurance plan) you stay 3 months then get kicked out. |
