Obesity.. Is it an eating disorder and a sign of some kind of mental illness..?

Or just a sign of laziness/gluttony on behalf of the obese person..
I'm not talking about people with underactive thyroids etc..
By the way, I'm not having a pop at obese people.. Just interested in people's opinions.

Things that can cause obesity: Too many calories, Too much good food, too little activity, Restaurant food and fast food, Food used as medicine, Diets and prolonged caloric restriction, Medical problems, Genes, Too much stress, Too little sleep, Busy schedules that leave no time for the family to eat together, Decreased availability of organized sports, Mass marketing of unhealthy and fattening foods to children and adults

Researchers believe that in most cases obesity represents a complex relationship between genetic, psychological, physiological, metabolic, socioeconomic, lifestyle, and cultural factors.

It simply another addiction related to low self esteem, high stress, boredom, etc.

I'm obese because I'm lazy. I don't watch what I eat and most times, don't care. eating disorder, maybe? they do run in my family. but I also eat when I'm sad or bored, so I think it's just an addiction. and laziness.

I don't view obesity as a mental illness. For some who are obese, it may be an addiction to eating. Whether that is a disorder is likely a medical conclusion. For many of us who are obese, we are that way because we eat more calories in our food than we burn with our activity. We generally enjoy eating more food than others and we are generally not as active. I consider this behavior to be a conscious choice - at least for me. I eat as much as I do because I enjoy eating food and not because I am using food to address any emotional issues. Eating happens to be my favoirte activity and I like to eat a lot of food often. I also enjoy being very morbidly obese and love being my very large size at 650. I have lost weight before and been normal sized for many years. I simply prefer being able to enjoy my eating and love being very very fat.
