Getting the individual involved in sports has been shown to be a preventitive technique against eating disorder because it encourages a healthy body ideal and fosters team work and accomplishment. Limiting the time the person watches T.V. and reads fashion magazines because of the advertisments, which portray an unrealistic ideal body image. Get the person involved in cooking, experimenting with healthy, wholesome foods. Spend time with the person engaging in activities that are fun for both, hoping to raise self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-worth. Making sure the person is educated in eating disorders and get them involved in programs or clubs that they like so they have a goal to look forward to. |
